PRESBYTERY PRATTLE

Highlights from Yellowhead Presbytery Meeting held in Gibbons.

October 14 and 15, 1999

Christian Development:

- Youth Rally, November 5 - 7, 1999 at Ardrossan United Church, $17.00 per person. Theme: Signs, Symbols and Sacraments. Open to youth from Grades 7 - 12. Need I youth leader or chaperone for every 6 youth. Registration forms available f-rom your minister, youth leader or Joanna Pickerl, 432-2058.

- Daily Vacation Bible School is planned for the summer of 2000. Needed: I D.V.B.S. leader. Candidate - enthusiastic young adult (post-secondary), musical talent - an asset. Term begins June 1, 2000. Paid position. Great summer job!!!

- Funding available for youth going to Tuxus from Education for Church Leadership (Life Long Leaming) fund. Up to $50.00 per person.
 

U.C.W.

- Wanted: stories from women. U.C.W. presidents watch your mail for a letter regarding Women's Stories. This is a time mandated request. Act on it as soon as possible. Contact Agnes Buchanan, Chair, Yellowhead Presbyterial, Division of Communication.
 

DIVISION OF WORLD OUTREACH

- What is your church doing to celebrate the Jubilee?

- A cross representing Christianity in the Third World is being

- circulated amongst the charges. Stony Plain has it and Spruce

Grove is next. Also, a reminder to support the Canadian Food

Grains Bank which is working to help those less fortunate.
 

COMMUNICATION

- Mnute books - 1/3 of the pastoral charges will be asked to

submit their books for review at one of the Presbytery

- meetings, either fall, winter or spring. A rotation list is being set up. Those being asked to submit to the February meeting will be named in the meeting registration information which will be sent out ahead of time. Please let your secretaries know.
 

- Yellowhead Sweatshirts - order your sweat shirt now! Anyone can order a sweatshirt, $25.00 each. Keep your youth delegates in mind also. At this time we have only 3 mediums left. If you would like one, please let Peter Chynoweth know A.S.A.P. so that he can place an order. Contact him atiasperuc(telusplanct at .net) or (780) 852-4334.

Pat Bourque, Congregational Development Coordinator,Northern Region told us about the launching of the new structure for Alberta and Northwest Conference. She brought along a boat model to symbolize this launch and we added our own personal Yellowhead touches.
 

- 2 studies currently being done by General Council Office: The Report on Ministry in the 21" Century, deadline Dec. 99; "Create the Vision, Catch the Dream"- how we will be funding capital projects into the future, deadline Nov. 12, 1999. Act now if you want to have input. Can be found on UC website.
 

- Also note, our M & S contributions are down. Your delegate received Covenant/Objective forms for 2000. (Please note! We have 6 congregations receiving Mission Support Grants in our Presbytery).
 

OTHER NOTES OF INTEREST

- We welcomed 4 new clergy to our Presbytery, Rev. George Pell to St. Pete's Ecumenical Church in Slave Lake; Rev. Wim Kreeft to Athabasca and Rev. Lilly Glebe to Rainbow Pastoral Charge. Kent Horsman, a candidate for ordination, is temporary supply at Hinton.
